The HireMilitary DoD SkillBridge / Career Skills Program (CSP) Internship is an approved SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29 as enacted by 10 U.S.C. Sec 1143. Eligibility is restricted to members of the U.S. Armed Forces separating honorably with greater than 180 days of continuous Active Duty. SkillBridge/CSP period of eligibility is within the final 180 days of Active Duty service, and the SkillBridge/CSP must be completed prior to separation from Active Duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. HireMilitary DoD SkillBridge/CSP is open to members of all services, and all ranks and experience levels. Service members should fully review SkillBridge/CSP Position Description for individual opportunity requirements and qualifications.
SkillBridge participants participate in full time training with industry (40 hour work week) under military orders and are not eligible for compensation from HireMilitary or its partner host employers but will continue to receive all military wages and benefits for the period of the DoD SkillBridge/CSP enrollment.

Position Overview
We're seeking a separating or retiring Navy officer with recent, in-depth contracting knowledge within the Department of the Navy to serve as our Director of Business Development and Marketing. This high-impact role reports directly to the Founder/CEO and will drive DoN acquisitions, OTA pursuits, consortium partnerships, and early marketing to secure government contracts and accelerate adoption. In Phase 2 (nationwide launch), you will oversee the full spectrum of social media campaigns and high-visibility television media exposure (e.g., Good Morning America, national morning shows, and prime-time segments). Remote-friendly with competitive compensation, equity, and veteran-focused perks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business development focused on DoN contracts, including OTA awards, consortium memberships (e.g., TReX II, ATI), and Program Executive Office engagements.
- Build and manage strategic relationships with key DoN stakeholders (e.g., OPNAV N1, Chief of Naval Personnel, NAVWAR) to drive platform adoption and feedback loops.
- Develop and execute initial marketing strategies targeting military audiences, veteran organizations, and family support networks to achieve rapid user growth (goal: 10K+ active-duty users in Year 1).
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts for DoN-specific features and pilot programs.
- Upon Phase 2 nationwide launch, oversee comprehensive social media strategy and high-profile television media campaigns to establish CarryOn as a household name.
- Support fundraising and investor outreach by articulating DoN traction and market potential.
Qualifications
- Recent and in-depth contracting knowledge with the Department of the Navy, including government systems acquisition experience.
- Strong understanding of OPNAV N1 and Chief of Naval Personnel systems and organizational structure.
- Proven acquisitions experience, preferably with NAVWAR (Naval Information Warfare Systems Command) and Program Executive Offices (PEOs).
- Familiarity with personnel systems and DoN procurement processes.
- Demonstrated success in business development, relationship-building, or marketing within defense/military contexts.
- Excellent communication and networking skills; active or recent security clearance a plus.
- Coachable, mission-aligned leader who is fully vested in the founder's vision to preserve wisdom, protect families, and ensure legacies CarryOn.
