Position Type: Internship | Part-Time | Seasonal

About the Fort Worth Vaqueros & Vaqueras

The Fort Worth Vaqueros and Vaqueras are Fort Worth's premier pre-professional soccer clubs, representing the city across men's and women's competition while building a strong connection between soccer, community, and the culture of Fort Worth.

The clubs are committed to growing the game at every level through competitive soccer, youth development, community engagement, local partnerships, and memorable experiences for fans.

We are looking for a Grassroots Marketing Intern who wants to be on the ground helping grow the club throughout Fort Worth.

This is not a traditional "sit behind a desk" internship. The ideal candidate is energetic, outgoing, creative, organized, and comfortable walking into a business, school, soccer event, community gathering, or local organization and starting a conversation about the Vaqueros and Vaqueras.

Position Summary

The Grassroots Marketing Intern will help expand the visibility, awareness, and fan base of the Fort Worth Vaqueros and Vaqueras through face-to-face community engagement, local marketing activations, event participation, fan development, promotional campaigns, and grassroots outreach.

The intern will help identify where Fort Worth's soccer fans, families, students, businesses, youth players, and community members gather and develop creative ways to bring the Vaqueros and Vaqueras into those spaces.

The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in sports marketing, experiential marketing, community relations, fan development, event marketing, ticket promotion, social media, partnership activation, and grassroots sales.

Core Responsibilities

1. Grassroots Community Outreach

  • Help develop and execute a grassroots marketing strategy throughout Fort Worth and the surrounding DFW community.

  • Identify local businesses, schools, youth soccer clubs, colleges, community organizations, nonprofits, restaurants, bars, retailers, and events where the Vaqueros and Vaqueras can build awareness.

  • Visit local businesses and community organizations to introduce the club and explore promotional opportunities.

  • Distribute promotional materials, flyers, posters, schedules, and other club marketing assets throughout the community.

  • Help establish relationships with local businesses and organizations that can become community partners.

  • Identify opportunities to place Vaqueros and Vaqueras branding in high-traffic locations.

  • Maintain a running list of potential grassroots marketing locations and contacts.

2. Community Events & Activations

  • Represent the Vaqueros and Vaqueras at community events, festivals, youth soccer tournaments, schools, watch parties, partner events, and other local activations.

  • Assist with event setup, execution, and breakdown.

  • Help manage club booths, promotional tables, giveaways, signage, and interactive experiences.

  • Engage directly with fans and community members.

  • Encourage attendees to follow the club's social media channels and learn more about upcoming matches and programs.

  • Capture photos and short-form video content when appropriate.

  • Help create memorable experiences that introduce new audiences to the club.

3. Matchday Marketing (Not applicable in the Fall semester role, only the spring)

  • Assist the marketing team with grassroots promotion leading into home matches.

  • Support matchday fan engagement activities and promotions.

  • Help coordinate promotional materials and community group activations.

  • Assist with youth groups, schools, community organizations, and other invited guests.

  • Help execute matchday promotions and fan engagement initiatives.

  • Interact with fans and help create a welcoming game-day environment.

4. Fan Development & Ticket Promotion

A major component of this position is helping turn community awareness into actual fans.

The intern will:

  • Promote upcoming Vaqueros and Vaqueras matches through grassroots channels.

  • Help identify potential new fan groups and community audiences.

  • Assist with group ticket and promotional campaigns.

  • Help distribute ticket offers and promotional information.

  • Track where new fans and leads are coming from.

  • Help identify opportunities to convert community relationships into repeat attendance.

  • Assist the marketing and ticketing teams with lead generation and follow-up.

5. Social Media & Content Support

  • Capture behind-the-scenes photos and short-form video at community events and activations.

  • Help identify interesting stories happening throughout the Fort Worth soccer community.

  • Assist with Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok, Facebook, and other club platforms.

  • Provide real-time content from community appearances when requested.

  • Help develop grassroots-focused content that shows where the Vaqueros and Vaqueras are showing up in Fort Worth.

  • Identify local trends, events, businesses, and community conversations that the club can participate in authentically.

  • Assist with creating simple graphics and promotional materials using tools such as Canva.

6. Local Partnership Development

  • Help identify businesses and organizations that align with the Vaqueros and Vaqueras brand.

  • Research potential community partners.

  • Assist in creating grassroots partnership opportunities.

  • Help coordinate partner appearances, promotions, and community activations.

  • Support the marketing and partnerships team in delivering value to existing partners.

  • Document and report community activation activity for internal use and partner reporting.

7. Community Intelligence

One of the most important responsibilities of this position is to become the eyes and ears of the club in Fort Worth.

The intern will regularly identify:

  • Where soccer fans are gathering.

  • What local events are attracting families and young adults.

  • Which businesses are popular with the soccer community.

  • Where youth soccer players and families spend time.

  • What local organizations are looking for community partners.

  • What events the Vaqueros and Vaqueras should be participating in.

  • What other local sports, entertainment, and community organizations are doing successfully.

  • New ideas for growing awareness and attendance.

The intern will bring these observations back to the club and help turn them into actionable marketing opportunities.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Outgoing and comfortable talking to strangers.

  • Passionate about soccer and/or sports.

  • Passionate about Fort Worth and the local community.

  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and positive.

  • Creative and willing to try new ideas.

  • Comfortable working independently.

  • Highly organized and dependable.

  • Comfortable working at events and in busy environments.

  • A strong communicator.

  • Comfortable using social media.

  • Willing to get out into the community rather than waiting for people to come to them.

  • Comfortable representing the Vaqueros and Vaqueras professionally.

  • A self-starter who sees an opportunity and takes action.

You do not need to know everything about marketing. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, work hard, talk to people, and help us grow the club.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in marketing, communications, sports management, business, public relations, advertising, or a related field.

  • Previous experience with sports, marketing, events, sales, community engagement, or social media.

  • Experience using Canva or similar design tools.

  • Basic photography or video skills.

  • Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other social platforms.

  • Spanish-language skills are a plus.

  • Previous experience playing or participating in soccer is a plus.

  • Existing connections within the Fort Worth soccer, youth sports, school, or business community are a plus.
